Counselling, Therapy and Covid 19
Having taken advice from my professional associations and government guidelines and undertaken my own risk assessment, I have come to the conclusion face-to-face work is not possible for the foreseeable future.
I had hoped and intended to restart sooner so it is disappointing not to be able to do so nor give a time when this might be possible.
However, in common with many other counsellors and therapists I have taken my practice online and undertaken additional training to better understand how this can work both for counselling and EMDR therapy.
Some clients have decided this will not work for them, others have found working via Zoom or telephone can actually offer them greater flexibility over appointment and travel time.
For clients who are keen walkers I am also considering walk and talk sessions although EMDR will not be possible in that situation.
I recognise the pandemic has resulted in making a difficult time even more difficult for many clients but online work can be a worthwhile alternative to face-to-face therapy and worth considering.
That said, I quite understand online work may not be for you and although I am unable to suggest colleagues able to offer face-to-face work I can recommend the BACP, COSRT and EMDR websites as a starting point.
